Settings

Grid controls live in SETT, playback and performance options in MODE, and display settings in ETC → ADV. Preview mode and volume share VOL → PREV. Encoder 4 turns through each submenu.

Entering SETT

From the root menu, highlight SETT and short-press encoder 4. Row 16 re-colours to the SETT family tint so you always know you are inside this world. Encoder 4 turn flips siblings; tap touch 2 to return to the grid. Reopening the menu restores the parent family.

SETT family entry on the root menu.

MODE and advanced settings

MODE: FLOW, PMOD, LOOP, VMOD, CHLD, IMG, PONG, SONG, TCHY, AUTO. Open MODE with encoder 4; select SONG and press it to enter the arranger. ETC contains INFO, SD, BATT, ADV, RSET. Select ADV and press encoder 4 for CRSR, LEDS, RAM, LGHT, COLR, EYES, FIRE.

MODE → TCHY — TOUCHY

Turn encoder 3 to ON in MODE → TCHY, then leave the menu with touch 1. TOUCHY stops the sequencer and turns the five touch pads into an instrument: touch 1 plays voice 1, through touch 5 playing voice 5. Each touch plays once; release the pad before the next hit. Hits play the loaded samples through their existing voice filters and effects; they do not write notes into the pattern.

A flying Nyan Cat replaces the grid. Each pad gives the frosting its fixed colour: 1 red, 2 orange, 3 green, 4 blue, 5 purple.

ControlAction
Turn encoder 1Pitch of the last voice played: −24 to +24 semitones.
Turn encoder 2Hit velocity of that voice: 1–127. Channel volume stays full in TOUCHY.
Turn encoder 3Reverb of that voice, where available (voices 1, 2 and 5).
Turn encoder 4Highpass (LCUT) of that voice.
Short press encoders 1–4Open the existing SMP browser for the corresponding voice.
Long press encoder 1Fast-record into the last voice played. Keep holding to record; release to stop. This replaces the sample without changing pattern notes.
Long press encoder 3Open FILTER for the last voice played with a pad.
Long press encoder 4Open the main menu at MODE. Set TOUCHY to OFF with encoder 3 and leave the menu to return to the grid.

Sample loading and filter editing work as described in Samples and Sound. Returning from either screen brings you back to TOUCHY. Pitch, reverb and highpass reuse the voice’s existing filter settings; velocity is remembered per voice during the session. Original channel volumes are restored when TOUCHY is switched OFF. TOUCHY is a temporary performance setting and starts OFF after reboot; leaving it does not restart playback automatically.

MODE → FLOW — follow lighting

A soft whole-grid wash that pulses with the beat — performance glow vs clean editor.

1 Encoder 1
2 Encoder 2
3 Encoder 3
TurnON / OFFON = soft tint washes the grid in time. OFF = only the playhead column lights (cleaner for editing).

VOL → PREV — sample preview policy

How the sample browser auditions files while you hunt. Open VOL → PREV: encoder 2 selects the mode; encoder 3 changes preview volume (0–50).

PREV = ON — every file under the cursor auto-plays.

PREV = PRSS — press encoder 1 on a selected wav to preview. Never goes up a folder.

PREV = SYNC — while playing, pattern notes on this voice audition the highlighted file. While stopped, encoder 4 auto-plays like ON.

1 Encoder 1
2 Encoder 2
TurnON / PRSS / SYNCON = auto-audition while spinning files. PRSS = encoder 1 press on a wav. SYNC = auto-audition while stopped; while playing, the browse file fires on that voice's pattern hits (real voice is not muted, its triggers are skipped).
3 Encoder 3
Turn0–50Preview volume, independent of MAIN and LOUT.
4 Encoder 4

SETT → VIEW — note density on the grid

How much of the pattern you see while editing one page.

1 Encoder 1
2 Encoder 2
3 Encoder 3
TurnEASY / FULLEASY = current page only. FULL = current page bright, neighbour pages ghosted underneath for context.
4 Encoder 4

MODE → PMOD — pattern mode

What happens when a page finishes playing. This is the bridge between a single loop and the SONG arranger.

ModeWhat playback doesBest for
OFFAdvances through the pattern pagesA→B→C sequences
ONLoops the selected edit pageLocked loops and live tweaking
SONGFollows the SONG arranger chainNon-linear set lists, repeats, bridges
NEXTStarts the visible page, finishes it even if you browse away, then starts whichever page is visible at the boundaryLive transitions on a cue

TurnOFF → ON → SONG → NEXTChoice survives reboot.
4 Encoder 4
Related: page strip colours and NEXT cueing are covered in Song → pages & PMOD.

MODE → LOOP — page length cap

Set the number of pattern pages played before the loop wraps. OFF follows the populated pattern length.

1 Encoder 1
2 Encoder 2
3 Encoder 3
TurnOFF or 1–8 pagesOFF follows the populated pattern length; a number forces that many pages before playback wraps.
4 Encoder 4

MODE → VMOD — voice loops

Each voice loops on its own pages. Pitches of that voice, on any row, stay with it.

1 Encoder 1
2 Encoder 2
3 Encoder 3
TurnOFF / ONChoice survives reboot.
4 Encoder 4

A voice’s length is the highest page that holds any of its notes. Empty voices do not stretch the cycle. The pattern runs as long as the longest voice. On each pass, a voice plays its own page in the same column, then wraps. Repeats such as 1/2 and 1/4 count that voice’s wraps.

While VMOD is on, FLOW, LOOP, and pattern-mode page lock leave playback and the page dots alone. Song mode is unchanged.

On the grid, encoder 2 (CTRL = PAGE) steps only the pages that contain the current voice. A voice with no notes still uses the full page range, so the first notes can be painted. Changing voice jumps to that voice’s page. Encoder 4 does not change pages while voice mode is playing.

Page dots: white marks pages that contain the voice under encoder 1. Green and yellow follow that voice’s loop page and the page you are editing.

IMG lock: while MODE → IMG is on, VMOD is forced off and the MODE → VMOD control snaps back to OFF.

MODE → IMG — image paint mode

Black matrix, colour-cycle paint — sketch with voices 1–8 instead of the usual row-lane drawing rules.

1 Encoder 1
2 Encoder 2
3 Encoder 3
TurnOFF / ONOn MODE → IMG. Survives reboot.
4 Encoder 4

When IMG is on, draw-mode base colours disappear (black canvas). Painting a cell cycles through sample voices 1–8 (and their colours). Touch 1 cycles the brush voice without painting. Stay in DRAW — single mode is not used here.

VMOD is forced off. REC → CLR is forced to FIX so page clears do not wipe the sketch unexpectedly.

SETT → CTRL — encoder 2 on the grid

What encoder 2 does in draw / single mode when you are not in a special overlay.

1 Encoder 1
2 Encoder 2
3 Encoder 3
TurnPAGE / VOLPAGE = flip pattern pages 1–16. VOL = per-row volume for the cursor’s lane (live mix fader).
4 Encoder 4
Survives reboot. See also Sequencing → draw.

ETC → ADV → LEDS — panel hardware

Tell the firmware which LED panel(s) are actually bolted on. Wrong setting = pixels off the visible area.

ValueMeaning
1One panel (default)
1BOne panel, mirrored / flipped
2Two panels stacked (16×32)
2BTwo panels, mirrored

MODE → PONG — bouncing retriggers

A ball bounces across the grid in draw mode. It only hits and fires notes on muted voices, so unmuted playback stays untouched.

PONG on: speed readout left, ON right, ball on the middle rows.

1 Encoder 1
2 Encoder 2
3 Encoder 3
TurnOFF / ON, then speedWhen on, dial speed 1–99 (higher = faster).
4 Encoder 4
Not the idle “eyes”. Cartoon eyes after long inactivity (when not playing) are a separate screensaver. PONG only runs while you are in draw mode with PONG = ON.

ETC → ADV → CRSR — cursor style

How the edit cursor draws on the grid.

1 Encoder 1
2 Encoder 2
3 Encoder 3
TurnNORM / CHNR / BIGNORM = thin white ring. CHNR = only on the focused voice in single mode. BIG = chunky 3×3 halo for distance reading. With CHNR and CTRL = PAGE, turning encoder 2 flashes the page number on the right edge, one row below the top, with no underline.
4 Encoder 4

SETT → DRAW — paint handedness

Two-hand careful editing vs one-hand set/remove. Full gesture detail: Sequencing → Set & remove triggers.

1 Encoder 1
2 Encoder 2
3 Encoder 3
TurnL+R / RL+R = enc 1 row/erase, enc 4 place. R = enc 4 toggles alone; enc 1 = temporary full mute.
4 Encoder 4

SETT → MUTE — R-mode unmute mask

Custom set of channels that come back unmuted when you leave R-mode’s temporary full mute (encoder 3). Not a paint gate.

Sixteen dots = channels 1–16. Green = in the unmute mask; red = stays muted.

2 Encoder 2
TurnSelect channel 1–16Highlight which lane you are editing.
3 Encoder 3
TurnToggle mask bitGreen = unmuted on exit; red = stays muted.
4 Encoder 4
Build a “kick + snare only” return so a break drops back to just those lanes. See Sequencing → R mode.
