Tempo
BPM screen — internal vs external clock, matrix brightness, tap tempo.
The BPM screen
Open from menu BPM. The firmware mode is VOLUME_BPM: it bundles global tempo, matrix brightness, and the internal vs external MIDI clock choice. Audio output level is separate — see VOL → MAIN.
Clock mode colour key
| Mode | BPM colour | Meaning |
| INT | Cyan digits, green arrow pointing right ("out") | TŒRN is master; emits MIDI clock per MIDI → SEND. External gear can follow. |
| EXT MIDI (locked) | Green digits, red < blinking | TRS MIDI clock is stable. Encoder 3 ring red. |
| EXT analog | Orange digits, orange < flashing on each pulse | CLK-IN (J26) pulses drive play immediately (no lock wait) at the PPQN set on MIDI → CIN. The number is the measured tempo. |
| EXT MIDI (locking) | Red digits, red < | Still measuring MIDI clock — wait, check the cable. |
Range: 40–300 BPM. Tap tempo: on this screen, repeated taps on the appropriate touch pad are averaged into the live BPM number — a few clean taps will settle it.
Variant A — Internal clock (master)
Cyan three-digit readout on the left, green right-pointing arrow on the right showing that clock is being sent out. Encoder 3 ring lights green.
1 Encoder 1
| Short | Exit to draw | Returns to last grid view. |
2 Encoder 2
| Turn | Matrix brightness 3…255 | LEDs only — does not change audio. |
| Short | Draw-base colour toggle | Idle steps as channel tints vs darker base. |
3 Encoder 3
| Turn | INT ↔ EXT clock | Green > = internal master. Left arrow = slave. |
| Click | MIDI in ↔ analog PPQN in | EXT only: red < = TRS MIDI clock. Orange < = CLK-IN (J26). Clicking from INT jumps to EXT on that source. |
4 Encoder 4
| Turn | Set BPM (40–300) | When INT, this is the master tempo. |
Variant B — MIDI external clock, locked
Green three-digit readout on the left, red left-pointing arrow on the right showing TRS MIDI clock is being received. The arrow blinks with the clock. Encoder 3 click switches to analog EXT (variant D). Encoder 4 offsets the stored counter without overriding the live clock.
Variant C — MIDI external clock, unstable
Red three-digit readout and a red left-pointing arrow — the measurement is still settling or no MIDI clock is arriving. Wait a few bars, then re-check the cable and the master.
Variant D — Analog EXT (CLK-IN)
Orange three-digit readout (measured tempo) and an orange left-pointing arrow that flashes on each CLK-IN pulse. Pulses drive the sequencer immediately — no green “lock” wait. Rate and hold-off are set on MIDI → CIN. Encoder 3 click returns to MIDI EXT (red <).
